So we didn't make it into Depict in the end, but you can go ahead and watch our film anyway down below, on our front page, or on YouTube. However you want.
Feel free to share it around.
We finally got our module feedback from our module tutors, and our group film recieved a First, at 72%, making it the second highest grade in our year group for this module. We're pretty proud of that, and can't wait to see if we get shortlisted for Depict! as well. Wish us luck!
Ok, our film would be online and available, but the film is being submitted to Depict!, so we're waiting to see what the outcome of that will be. Looking at last year's information, Depict! will probably put out their call for entries early next month, so we'll see what happens after that.
Jess went to the printers today and got us a couple of printed and bound copies of our production bible.
We may well make the PDF of this available sometime after the film screens and is finally posted in full online. It includes finished art for the background, production stills, some of the character design work we've done, and samples that were used to keep people animating on model, as well as our production schedule, script, and other bits and pieces.
Just another sign of how close to the finish line we are.
Our music is finally done, and so is the sound effects track, and will be adding them later today. All of that basically means that we're done. Our final music was created by James Summers, and trust me, it's pretty damn good.
Jess is in the process of putting together our production bible, which we'll be getting printed at a print shop that is apparently used by Aardman as well.
We'll be looking to burn our DVDs over the next day or so, and then finish up the production journals for uni before the screening on Tuesday. The film will be available online sometime Tuesday afternoon/evening.
On the music front, Mikey is no longer working on our music due to time management issues, so we've enlisted two other musicians to try and get a music track that we're happy with.
The first is a Canadian musician based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who's produced a 90-second track for the film. Unfortunately, he's no longer available to make modifications to the track because of other professional commitments.
The second is James Summers, Chris' brother, who is currently working on an alternative.
We're not going to make a decision on which - if any - of their tracks we'll use until we've heard them both.
With sound effects, Tom has produced a sfx track that we're pretty happy with, and is one or two volume adjustments away from being complete. All in all, we're very nearly done.
This week, as well as finalising the credits, Tom Shannon developed the group logo and the title typography for the opening credits.
They both look pretty damn awesome and we're happy with them. After some feedback, we decided to make the shape in the middle of the group logo blue, like it's a tear/rain drop so it's totally appropriate to our production.
Pending the finalisation of the music and soundtrack, here are the credits as they stand:
When we know for definite that we'll be using Michael Clark's music (we have arranged for another musician to have a go, and we'll choose between the two), his name will be added to the credits, possibly with a "Special Thanks" section for the tutors who've helped us out the most with the production.
Jess and Tom will be going into the foley studio and searching online for CC Licensed sound effects to start putting together a sound track for the film. We should have a limited soundtrack by Monday 9th, and it should be finished by the time Friday 13th rolls around.
We've enlisted the help of an independent musician, Michael Clark, in the creation of a music track to go with the film. He's previously produced chiptune music under the name Cloudspires, releasing an album on Bandcamp, and made other music under the name Apyhilliate on Youtube. He's been given access to the latest version of the film, and we're expecting the first go at a music track to be ready by Monday.
Currently in progress, alongside typography for the film title and a permanent logo for the production crew. These are likely to be ready either tomorrow or, again, by Monday.
